The first new council homes in Cambridge for 20 years recently completed

1Nr. Wheelchair user bungalow at Cockerell Road, Cambridge and 4Nr. dwellings at Harris Road, Cambridge for Cambridge City council have recently been completed.  These dwellings are the first new council homes to be built in Cambridge in the last 20 years.

Built to achieve Code Level 4, the narrow site at Cockerell Road presented challenges, which were overcome to build a contemporary designed wheelchair bungalow with a barrel vaulted roof, solar power and air source heat pumps.

In a more traditional design, the 4Nr. Lifetime Homes houses were built at Harris Road and also achieved Code Level 4, incorporating solar thermal panels.

Both schemes were completed on time and some cost savings were even achieved for Cambridge City Council.

The dwellings for Cockerell Road were built for Cambridge City Council in conjuction with Mansell Construction Services Limited, Cambridge City Architects and Code Assessors; The Design Partnership.

The dwellings for Harris Road were built for Cambridge City Council in conjuction with Mansell Construction Services Limited and The Design Partnersip who were Architects and Code Assessors on this Scheme.

Scheme Completion - January 2011
